We're only getting a few to race the main classes at the moment. Although we can just about race with a minimum of 4 drivers it's getting to be less and less fun. Let's hope this improves over the coming weeks !!
6 to race tonight with Keith arriving and helping out with marshaling....
In the racing Ian and Corky were setting the pace with Ian looking particularly quick. Ian was marginally quicker than Corky to take the win by a couple of laps. It was tight for 3rd and 4th between Bob and Geoff with Geoff on form, only losing out on 3rd place by less than a lap to Bob. George and Kev were never on the pace, both 10 laps or so back from Geoff with Kev just pipping George to 5th by less than a lap.
On to Production Saloon....
There were only 4 of us to race the big saloon cars, but a huge thanks to Ian, George and Bob for staying on to marshal so we could have qualy into a 4 man final 😄👍 😄👍 😄 👍
Kev was quick in qualy to take TQ from Keith by just 12 feet, then both Corky and Geoff had a couple of offs and they finished just 2 feet apart to take 3rd and 4th respectively.
On to the race and Keith and Kev were neck and neck at half way with just a lap or so between them. In the third Kev sustained some body damage which hindered him a bit, but by then he had a decent lead over Corky in third so decided just to try and keep it clean and hold on to his 2nd spot and let Keith go. Keith ended up a comfortable winner by some 12 laps over Kev. Corky and Geoff were a bit off the pace but it was relatively close between them. Corky ended up in 3rd by just 6 laps from Geoff.
OK for time so we managed some refreshment at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
Five of us did manage to make it last night and were able to race both "classes".
Bob, Corky and Chris were joined by Ian and George to race the club cars on three lanes with two marshals. Chris not only managed to break the lap record but also the lap counters by getting below the set minimum lap time of 3.3 seconds.
Moving on to sports, Ian borrowed my Hawk production car to race against George in the first heat and was severely thrashed, George finishing way ahead of Ian who was making too many mistakes with a car which was not performing that well anyway. The three wasp motored cars made up the second heat with Chris again showing his speed, although this time a few too many offs took his total down a bit. Bob and Corky swapped places for the whole race with Bob eventually taking second place by a quarter of a lap after Corky had an off with 10 seconds to go.
Thanks Bob.
From Ian - "Yeah, cheers Bob.
Who needs enemies!!"
On to Saloon and some good racing. Chris TQ'ed from Keith taking 2nd and Woody 3rd to comprise the A final. That left Kev, Corky and Geoff to contest the B final.
Perhaps the race of the night was the B where Kev and Corky had their usual tight battle. Kev got in front early doors and despite a couple of late incidents he stayed about 1/4 lap ahead for most of the way and despite a late scare he clung on to take the win by 9 feet !!
The A was a bit of a stroll for Chris, leading all the way to take the win by 3 laps. Meanwhile Woody and Keith were having a great battle with positions changing a few times. Keith got the lead with about 20 secs to go and hung on to take 2nd by 1/2 a lap from Woody.
A good night's racing and time for some refreshment at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
Clubman Cars Racing
5 drivers for Club Cars tonight with Geoff running a bit late missing out.
On to F2 and Geoff turned up and Bob went home so just 5 drivers again for F2, we missed out Orange lane so we could have 3 drivers and 2 marshals.
1 move up B race into the A final.
Just about had time for some refreshment at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
A bit down on numbers tonight with holidays taking their toll. Bob has updated the Club Cars with Brushless motors and all were keen to try them out. Initially we had 5 to race so decided to race 2man races with 3 marshals, and go through twice so we all had 4 lanes.
Best laid plans and all that !! Purple car decided to throw a pinion in the 3rd race and with quite a bit of time lost to fix it we were a bit behind schedule to continue with that format. Chris turned up while doing the fix so we decided to abandon the original format and change to a new round robin with 4 lanes and 2 marshals. Off we went and got to the 4th race when the Orange car stripped a gear and with no spare available there was no alternative but to abandon Orange lane and go with the other 3. No further problems and racing completed. The brushless motors proved a bit quicker by 4-5 laps per segment so alot of PB's and lane records.
The racing was very competitive and the top 3 of Woody, Chris and Bob were separated by less than 2 laps. Then Kev and Corky were separated by just 34 feet, and Geoff couldn't quite get to grips was 9 laps further back. I think these will be a success but we need a stash of a few spares available for the inevitable incidents. Good stuff Bob !!
On to Production Saloon....
A bit pushed for time with Club cars teething problems so we decided not to run qualy and go straight into a 5 man segmented race, with Bob staying on to help out we ran 4 lanes with 2 marshals. A comfortable win for Chris from Woody, Kev and Geoff. Corky ran out of tyres half way through his last segment so had to retire, and ended up 5th & last !!!!
Quite tight for time but we managed some refreshment at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
Another decent turnout for Club Car racing with Geoff missing but the welcome return of Corky.....
Nick still dominates the racing, but he's on holiday now for a few weeks - time to catch up !!
On to Sports/GT and a great turnout of 8 drivers, with Woody returning after his foreign exploits, Corky back and Ian and George racing.
In qualy it was Kev first up and he set a very challenging time of 3.716, a PB by over 1/10th. Keith was up next and it was obvious that his car was not in good health, only posting 3.987 !! It wasn't until Woody went that Kev's time was beaten, and then Chris set TQ with 3.351.
The B line up was Nick, George, Ian and Keith but with Keith's car sounding 'orrible he decided not to race - but, Woody stepped in and lent him one of his spare cars so he was in. Not surprisingly he was in a class of his own with Wasp power to the other's Falcons and ran away with the win from Nick, Ian and George.
The A final had Chris leading all the way until the last segment when his car ground to a halt and disaster for him. This left Woody to cruise to a fairly easy win from Corky some 15 laps back in 2nd in the race, but Kev gave Corky a good run for his money, only 3 laps back with his Falcon power.
This meant a win for Woody with Keith taking 2nd place from the B, Corky in 3rd and Kev 4th.
A reasonable finish time and some refreshment at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
Another decent turnout for Club Car racing which is proving popular now that the cars are performing much more consistently. Nick is the man to beat at the moment with some good performances across all lanes and best totals for all lanes except Purple(Kev !!). The previous driver data has been reset as from 6th July so there are plenty of PBs.
I am in the process of setting up some sort of handicap system, time will tell how this develops...
On to Group 12 Racing with Chris and Keith joining the fray with Ian & George having to get home. Bob stayed on to do race control and marshal so we could race 5 drivers on all 4 lanes with 2 marshals.
Chris was on form to take TQ with 154.46, some 11 laps or so ahead of Keith in 2nd. Nick and Kev had their usual battles along the way with Nick just staying that bit quicker, so he took 3rd spot with Kev 4th. Geoff didn't have a good set, some way down on his best performances so he ended up in 5th overall. That meant Geoff didn't get a final and had to settle for 5th overall.
On to the A final and Chris raced into an early lead and looked fairly comfortable.... that is until around the minute mark of the first segment when disaster struck. His car ground to a halt with a loose pinion and that was that for him.
That left Nick out in the lead from Keith and that's the way it stayed for most of the rest of the race. They were neck and neck all the way until the last 20 seconds or so when Nick had a couple of scruffy laps and that let Keith through to take the lead and eventual win by just about a lap - great stuff !!
Kev wasn't too far behind but wasn't enjoying Orange lane but managed a decent finish just 5 laps or so behind Nick.
Time to settle the dust, 5 of us at the New Inn 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
