5 of us to race F2 tonight, good to see Corky back. We missed out Orange lane so it was best 2 from 3 so we could have 2 marshals and 3 racing.
Chris was on great form in qualy, setting new overall records on Blue, Yellow and Purple along with a a new best 2 total of 94.21. Kev and Woody were fighting it out for 2nd spot and straight into the A final, Woody was a bit scruffy at times with quite a few 'offs' and this let Kev pip him for 2nd spot by half a lap. Corky and Geoff were fighting for 4th spot and despite Corky having his motor out after a visit to the barrier on Blue he managed to take it by 3 laps. PB's for Kev and Geoff.
On to the B final which had Woody, Corky and Geoff fighting it out for a place in the A. Woody got his act together on Purple lane and was gradually pulling away from the other 2. Corky had another heavy excursion into the barrier but when his car got put back on it was mysteriously completely 'dead' and wouldn't move an inch - end of for him. This left Woody a comfortable winner with Geoff taking 4th overall from Corky.
The A was fairly straight forward with no real dramas. Chris took the lead and gradually extended it all the way and put in a PB to win with 47.16. Woody had another steady drive but couldn't stay with Chris and finished about 2 1/2 laps back for 2nd. Kev was off the pace with his motor going off and finished up about 2 1/2 laps behind Woody.
A reasonable finish so refreshment at the New Inn. 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
6 of us to race tonight. The cars were a bit 'up & down' so only 1 PB and that was Woody on Orange lane. Chris turned in the most consistent set and ran out overall winner with 188.67, some 4 laps or so ahead of Woody in 2nd and Nick 3rd. When the handicaps are applied it was quite close with the top 4 separated by just 3 laps or so with Geoff running out the winner from Woody, Nick and Chris. Kev and Keith were both a bit off their normal pace so were 5th and 6th respectively.
On to Production Saloon....
Data has been scrutinised from RC data as Woody was consistently going under minimum lap time, set at 2.9 seconds. He missed 3 laps on Yellow lane and 9 laps on Purple.... Minimum lap time has been reset to 2.7 secs from 2.9.
There were 6 of us to race the big saloon cars, so we ran qualy into a 2 x 3man finals. It was turning out to be Woody's night with a new record qualy total of 19.52 laps, 28 bits ahead of Chris's old record. Kev and Nick were 2nd and 3rd and made up the A final (Nick was running a 'brushless' motor so didn't qualify for race points). The B final was headed by Geoff with a brilliant new PB of 16.77, some 2 1/2 laps better than previous, and then Keith and Chris - poor qualy for him.
Chris bucked himself up in the B race and was comfortably well ahead all of the way and ran out winner with some 226.73 laps. Keith and Geoff were having a good battle with Geoff 3 laps ahead going into the last. Sadly for Keith he stripped a gear so couldn't challenge leaving Geoff comfortably in 2nd place.
On to the A and Woody was in a class of his own with a series of 47/57/56/58, his 1st segment score hampered by a spinning spur and he lost 29 seconds fixing it !!. He was consistently breaking the minimum lap time on Yellow and Purple, so his actual laps were not recording properly. On looking at the race data I have made what I think are correct adjustments, allbeit erring on the conservative side, but still he set a race total score of 238.04. Meanwhile, Kev and Nick were having a great tussle with not much between them most of the way, but going in to the last Kev had a 4 1/2 lap lead. A poor run on Yellow for Kev saw Nick catching fast on Blue. When time ran out, Kev had just managed to cling on and beat Nick by just over a lap. Great stuff.
We re-gooped the track before Saloon so with the track in good condition there were quite a few PB's across the board.
Bit of a late finish so refreshment at the Dog & Gun. 😃 🍺 🍺 👍
Sports/GT tonight and we had 5 drivers to race. The intention was to run normal qualifying and then 2 finals which would probably turn out to be Chris/Woody in the A with Wasp power and Nick, Kev and Geoff in the B with Falcon power. With plenty of time we decided to run 5 minute segments in the finals.
It didn't quite turn out as intended as after setting up the finals, Kev forgot to set the 2 groups, so we ended up with a mixed segmented race with 5 drivers and 3 'dummies' to make 8 segments. The racing wasn't too bad and there were some good races, particularly between Nick and Kev. Chris and Woody were obviously quicker than the other 3 so were racing for 1st and 2nd places. Woody finished his 4 segs first and set a target for Chris and Chris duly obliged to take the win by some 6 1/2 laps.
Meanwhile Nick and Kev were having a great battle. They were both in the last 2 races and were never more than a lap or 2 apart with Kev just in front. Nick was probably a bit quicker and trying hard to catch Kev who was driving at a steady pace. Nick got quite close at times but 'offs' at crucial times meant he couldn't quite make it an ended up just under a lap behind Kev, great stuff !! Geoff drove a decent set of 4 and finished up some 14 laps behind Nick.
A quite enjoyable night's racing was topped off at the New Inn for a couple of shandies. 😂 😜 🍻
And some decent Group 12 Saloon racing. Chris and Woody on good form after the weekend at the Nats, taking the top 2 slots with Nick taking 3rd spot, with a borrowed car.
Keith's chassis broke during his run on Purple but Kev stepped in and lent him his spare. Unfortunately for Kev this backfired as his tyres ran out but he couldn't swap to a different set because Keith was using them ☹️ and Keith beat him to 2nd spot in the B final!!!! Good to see Corky back, a bit down on pace but looking OK.
In the A final it was a routine win for Chris but Nick ran him pretty close, just a couple of laps back. Woody had a car issue and didn't finish.
To top off a good night's racing we trotted off to the New Inn for a couple of shandies. 😂 😜 🍻
