Production Saloon

5 drivers for 24th Production Saloon. Thanks to Ian & Chris staying on to marshal we ran qualy + a 5 man segmented final with sit out, that meant we had 3 marshals which is OK for 24th racing.
Good to have Bob back racing proper cars and he set the pace in qualy the only'16+' with 16.35. Then it was Woody taking 2nd spot, just short of a lap back. Then it was Nick, Kev and Corky.

Bob chose to start on Orange so he would go straight thru and sit out the last segment. Woody chose to sit out the first so he would start the 2nd segment and go all the way to the end. Bob finished up with a total of 209.06 and waited to see who could match or beat that. It was obvious Woody would, barring disaster, and so it was that Woody comfortably overtook Bob's total to take the overall win by some 9 laps or so.
Behind these two there was some good racing between Nick, Kev and Corky with never more than a few laps covering them.Going into the last it was Nick who had 3rd place but Kev had other ideas by going 3 laps quicker than Nick but couldn't snatch 3rd place. Corky also had a good finish and the 3 of them were covered by 4 laps or so overall. Nick took 3rd spot, Kev 4th and Corky 5th. Some very enjoyable racing.

A tight finish time but we managed to get some refreshment at the New Inn !
😃 🍺 🍺 👍

That's all the racing for 2023, I hope we all enjoyed some good racing nights. Into the New Year and it would be good to see some good turn outs so we can run 'Open' class cars on a regular basis again.

Happy New Year everyone 😃 🎆 😃

Production Saloon

On to Production Saloon....
There were just 5 of us to race the big saloon cars, so we ran qualy into a 2 man 'B' final and a 3 man 'A'.

Corky must have had a brain freeze as he arrived and realised that he hadn't packed his racing box into his car, so had nothing to race !!!! 😒
Fortunately Kev came to his rescue supplying his spare car and controller so he could race. 😃

In qualy it was Woody up first and he set a relatively modest total of 15.38 for his minute. Then it was Nick and although he beat Woody by half a lap it was obvious the track was giving nothing away as his 15.88 would be good enough for TQ but some 3 1/2 laps down on the record. Corky was getting used to a strange car/controller mixture and managed 13.33 and Keith really struggled as his car looked all over the place, only recording 12.80 for 5th place. Kev was up last and was looking good for TQ but a bit of the jitters saw him fall 3 feet short of Nick's total.

On to the race and Keith and Corky contested the B race. Keith got his car a bit better and he put in 3 x 47 laps in the first 3 segs, and with Corky doing a 48 and 2 x 46's they were neck and neck going into the last, on 153 laps with Keith about 1/2 a lap ahead. The race was on but Keith had got to grips and gradually pulled away from Corky and ran out winner of the race by just over 2 laps and some great racing along the way.

Then it was Nick, Kev and Woody contesting the 'A' and it was obvious from the off that Woody had his car running alot better as he raced off and put in a 52 for the first segment. This proved a bit too quick for Nick and Kev who were looking well matched, both doing 49's for the first. Then in the 2nd seg Nick's car starting playing up and became un-drivable for some reason and he retired after 12 laps. This left Woody well ahead and Kev running some way back but with his eye on catching Keith's total from the 'B' race. Going into the last Kev need a 45+ to grab 2nd overall and this he did quite comfortably with a 48 and so took 2nd overall. Meanwhile, Woody was pushing hard to try and take the fastest lap record of 2.926 but wasn't quite quick enough, some 1 1/2 tenths down.

OK for time so we managed some refreshment at the New Inn

Clubman Cars Racing

Another decent turnout of 8 drivers for Club Car racing. We decided to introduce a 'ghost' driver to make 9 and so mix up the races a bit so you weren't racing against the same drivers in the segments. The ensuing races had Bob and Woody a fair bit ahead of the rest with Bob running out overall winner with a new Overal Record total of 191.89 and Woody was only just short of the old one by 29 feet and finished in 2nd place.
Geoff was down on his usual showing with these cars and Corky was a bit rusty after missing a few weeks so they ended up 7th and 8th respectively. Of the rest it was a great tussle between Kev, Nick, Ian and George for the middle places. It finished up in that order but with just 1.24 laps covering the 4 of them it was great stuff.

Sports/GT

On to Sports/GT and 5 drivers staying on to race.....

With time a bit tight we decided to forgo qualy and do a randomised segmented race (with sit-out) with just 1 marshal on race control and track calls everywhere else. This seemed to work, a bit fraught at times but the best we could do.
Corky and Woody were running Wasp power with Nick, Geoff and Kev using Falcons. Corky's wasp was a bit down on power and put him on par with the falcons and this produced some good racing. Woody was obviously in a class of his own, and without breaking sweat he finished up with a decent total of 187.92 laps.
Geoff's car was a bit below par but the other 3 had a really tight race. Kev had started on Orange so finished his 4 segs first and set a reasonable target of 163.34 for the others to chase. Nick and Corky were both on 121 laps going into the last so the race was on. Nick put in the best last segment by less than a lap (0.87) from Corky but couldn't quite match Kev's total but ran him close to finish up just 0.85 behind on 162.49 and Corky on 161.62. Less than 2 laps covering 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
On the whole we made a decent job in difficult circumstances, and at least we got some racing.

A tight finish time but we managed to get some refreshment at the New Inn !

Clubman Cars Racing

5 drivers for Club Cars again tonight but with not enough for Saloons we just ran Club Cars.

Some excellent and fun racing resulted in a win for Bob with 'rusty' Nick taking 2nd spot about 4 laps back and Ian another 5 laps back taking 3rd. The Club Cars performed much better after a good fettling from Bob. This is probably the reason for quite a few PB's. Nick broke the current overall total record by 3 laps or so, but then Bob broke it again by another 4 laps with 190.58.
I'm quite pleased the way handicaps are working out. Tonight all 5 finished within 5 laps or so when handicaps were applied.

To top off a good night's racing all 5 of us trotted off to the New Inn for a couple of shandies.
😂 😜 🍻

On to F2 and.....
Just 4 of us stayed on for F2 which resulted in a win for Keith. Best race of the night was the B final between Woody & Kev. They were literally a couple of feet apart for the first 2 1/2 minutes or so until Kev had an off and Woody took the win to move up to the A final.

Just Woody & Kev for refreshment at the Dog & Gun 🐕 🔫 !!!

Formula 2

Formula 2 report to follow.....
Just 4 drivers tonight but we were expecting that. We decided to run heats of 2 drivers with 2 marshals, and go through the rotation twice to give each driver all 4 lanes. This seems to work OK with surprisingly few track calls needed.

In the first part of qualy it was Kev setting the early pace from Bob, with Geoff not too far back in 3rd, but Keith's car was just not handling and he was struggling to set a decent score.
The second set seemed to suit Bob better and he stormed to TQ by 5 laps from Kev in 2nd. Geoff was still 3rd with Keith's car still not handling, even with a tweek to a dragging pan. The only thing left to try was a different set of tyres. Kev had a spare pair of Primos which he lent to Keith, and - car transformed from undrivable to uncatchable !!!!

Geoff lined up with Keith for the C final and Keith was now the fastest car on the night. He won the C quite comfortably and moved up to face Kev in the B race. Keith was slightly quicker in this race and a few tenths per lap quicker than Kev. Keith's winning margin was only a couple of laps and meant that he moved up to race Bob in the A race.
The A was a good scrap with a few early offs for both, but crucially Bob had one more than Keith and this was to count. Both drivers settled into a good rythm but Keith managed to stay about half a lap ahead of Bob and ran out the winner overall by that half a lap. Keith certainly got his money's worth tonight with 7 x 3 minute races !!

To top off a good night's racing it was off to the New Inn for a couple of beers - and guess what - Keith had forgotten his wallet so he got free beer to boot !!!
😂 😜 🍻
